The Modern Man - Fashion & Hair Isn't Just for the Ladies

By Coral Pleas

Usually it's women who wear the most exciting styles, but lately it is the men that are making the statement. From dreadlocks to highlights, men are starting to make bolder moves with their hairstyles.

Trends for men
Fashion week isn't just for the ladies. We found Avant Garde men's look with some fun pompadours from Amy Farid from Bumble and Bumble. They were also wearing clean cut "Clark Kent/Superman" and gelling bobs for a sleek handsome look.

Some other trends found on Stars:
Musician Pete Wentz is wearing a great rock and roll short style. For medium legnths we have Ashton Kutcher where the hair naturally falls and no blow dryer is necessary. We also have our shaggy chic look with Johnny Depp: casual, cool and natural. We are also seeing the short buzzed look with Justin Timberlake, and he wears it well. You need to have a good head shape and a great face to get away with this look, not everyone can wear this style. The younger urban guys want trendier looks from skater styles to dreads. Stylists all agree that longer looks are coming back, how long really depends on the age.

After the Metro sexual era most men hated the term, we now have a wide variety of men from every background flexing their spending muscle in salons across the country.

She did it again! Victoria "Posh" Beckam leads another Hair Trend

By Sam Bonner

Style icon Victoria Beckham is up to her old tricks. Always keeping us on our toes, she has transformed herself yet again. After last years posh bob craze, the former spice girl has cropped her locks into a chic pixie cut. Much in the style of Mia Farrow, this short textured cut shows off the delicate features. The choppy fringe and soft textures around the ears and neck keep this look Feminine.

Although this cut is sure to start a trend, some may find the extremly short legnth a little intimidating. Thats ok This look may not be for everyone but we can still learn a lession from Posh. Fashion is constantly evolving and moving foward. If you're feeling in a style rut, askyour stylist to recommend something new. It will keep your style fresh and up to date. Your new look may insprire someone else to try something new themselves!

You never stop learning in hairdressing! From England to Sarasota to Atlanta, CL's Yvonne Armstrong continues to Educate

By Yvonne Armstrong

You never stop learning in the world of hair dressing!

I have just had the most wonderful experience at my continuing education classes at the Jamison Shaw Cutting School in Atlanta. The technique is to cut hair the french way which for me was so different than the English technique I studied for 22 years.

In the English technique we use smaller shears and small sections, where with the french technique you use longer shears and larger sections. I like how you stand the client to cut your guide for long hair which if you think about it makes more sense.

The salon was fantastic! The first day of training we had Candy Shaw on the floor working with us, I was very excited about this. At first its a bit confusing but when you get the french technique it is so much quicker and precise.

I cut all my cuts this way now. If you can ever take the time to go to the class I recommend it. I learned too much!

How are we going green? How can you go green?

You can clean up the environment with your hair! Seriously!

"Matter of Trust" is in collaboration with thousands of salons throughout the U.S. and abroad. Salons donate their hair clippings to soak up oil spills! We are so gratefull to be apart of the great oppertunity!

Did you know?

Every year, an estimated 706 million gallons of oil enter our planets oceans

Phil McCrory, a hairstylist from Alabaney, invented the hair mat which naturally absorbs oil from air and water and acts as the perfect sponge for an oil slick. The Spongy hair mats apparently feel like SOS pads and are about the size of a doormat. So do your part to clean up the environment with you hair clippings is truly going green!

Are you ready to get your green on?

As a Stylist, it has been my pleasure to inform you on ways to turn over a new "green" leaf. Weather you use tea tree or donate your hair to clippings we want to thank you for joining us in keeping our environment healthy and happy!

We Love The 80's!!!!! Fashion & Hair Revive an Era

BY SAM BONNER

Raybans, studded leather belts, colored dennem, journey....if these things sound all too familiar you are most likely a product of the 80's! Don't cringe but they're back!! I know you've Probably burned every picture of yourself with big bangs, a bad perm, or a mullet but don't worry, this time around the fashion is much more functional and fashion forward.

Things like mixing bright colors and prints have been turning up on runways everywhere. You may see some extreme versions of this trend in magazines but don't count it out. Adding a splash of color with a scarf or a belt can be an amazing toned down version of this trend. A pair of hot pink shoes can update that little black dress (just don't match your lipstick to them)

Accessories are big this season. Real BIG! The future is so bright you better wear shades. Think Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Fashionistas Nicole Ritchie and the Olsen twins have been sporting this look. Earrings, Belts, Bracelets...you name it. Have fun experimenting with different colors and styles.

Many of of were traumatized by the 80's and with good reason. I still can't see a pair of wigwams without crying. Incorporating small pieces of this fashion flash back can keep you looking trendy without going retro overboard.

So put your Styx album back in your CD rotation (like you ever took it out) and embrace the 80's!!!

Whats Hot in 2008! Fashion Trends

BY CORAL PLEAS

Cuts
2007 was such a big year and we will see a similar feel for 2008. While 2007 introduced us to the Pob (Posh Bob), we will be seeing a lot more bobs in 2008.

Fringe is back!- the fringe trend was brought back this year! Kate Moss has been seen wearing a new fringe that we see being big this year.

A sleek side part dominated the runways for spring and summer 2008

Masculine cuts also hit the runway in 2008! Agyress Deyn's trademark boyish crop was the perfect background for creating this style. We're not expecting this to be too mainstream but picked up by more alternative types.

This year's Hair trends will range from the boyish short crops to natural long tresses with the bob in between!

Colour

Get Dirty - Its time to get down and dirty because dirty blondes have more fun. An overly natural look will be trendy for 2008; this is brought back by models like Caroline Trentini and Jessica Stam.

Ice is in- Much like the Dirty Blondes colour trend, Platinum's another way to sex up blondes for 2008. Its best suited for Spring/Summer.

Auburn is the new Red- We have noticed a massive increase in popularity of auburns. You can also turn burgundy and maroons, Picking colours that mix well with reds and browns for a natural finish. We will see more of this color in the fall and winter catwalks on models like Chris Hans.

For Men- "Blondes for men" says celebrity stylist and inventor of the Pob , Ben Cooke "We should not be aiming at white or platinum but it should be close, aim for something brighter!"

Hot New Trend Alert!....Be Yourself

BY SAM BONNER

As a hairstylist, if I had one wish for my clients, it would be for them to really love who they are. All too often I hear the self criticism and insecurities of truly amazing women. Although I work in an industry that is defined by trends, fashion, and what the magazines decide looks good this season, I'd like to challenge women to look past these things . Personal style is an important part of self-expression but it is not who we truly are. We are not our looks and we should not be defined by them. More importantly, We should not be defined by what other people think we should look like. So many people are not having fun at the salon. They are just going through the motions, almost like a four week ritual they are obligated to. This is not an oil change people! This is art and YOU get to be the canvas! How Fun is that!?!?

I'd like to propose that the trend for this season is to truly be you! Try something you've always thought looked great on other but were convinced you couldn't wear for yourself. Step out side the boundaries you have created for yourself. People evolve on the inside and it should reflect on the outside. Who you truly are is an amazing, beautiful person. There is no one exactly like you! It is an honor for us to have someone as extraordinary as you as a guest at our salon.

Locks of Love @ Cutting Loose - June 8th, 2008

Girls at Cardinal Mooney High School make one of the biggest personal sacrifices each year as these young women donate their lovely locks of hair to Locks of Love. Cutting Loose Salon provides an annual event each year where the girls donate over 10inches of their hair to provide hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children with long-term cancer. We incorporate a professional photo shoot with before and after shots for publication in national hairstyling magazines.
